In the reaction of 3CuCl2 (aq) + 2Al (s) --> 2AlCl3 (aq) +3Cu (s) which species is oxidized? which is reduced? Which is the reducing agent which is the oxidizing agent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Al is being oxidized: therefore reducing agent Cu is being reduced: therefore oxidizing agent Hope that helps

OpenStudy (abb0t):

First of all, do you know what it means for a species to be oxidized or reduced? And do you know what an oxidizing agent is (reducing agent)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oxidised: Al -> Al^+3 reduced: Cu^+2 ->Cu Reducing agent: Al->Al^+3 + 3e^- oxidising agent: Cu^+2 + 2e^- -> Cu (NOTE: Al^+3= aluminium to the power of positive 3 3e^-= 3 electrons [e to the power of negative is short for electrons))
