1. What are the zeros of the function f(x) = 3x^2-9x+6/3x-6 2. What is the graph of the function f(x) x^2-9x+20/x-4 (I just need help getting the discontinuities, I'm confused on how to get those.)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

a discontinuity is what happens when we try to divide by zero

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what value(s) make the denominator go to zero?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

on #2, 4 does give us a zero denominator. what this means is that on the graph, where x=4 there is going to be some sort of discontinuity because we simply cant use x=4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, so how do we find the other coordinate?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what do you mean by other coordinate?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The point of discontinuity. (4,?)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

a discontinuity is not a point .... it is a value of x that simply cannot exist for the expression.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if you are trying to determine the TYPE of discontinuity we have, you would want to factor the top part to make some comparisons with
