Which relation does not represent a function? (-8, 4), (-3, 2), (1, 3), (5, -8) (2, 0), (4, 6), (7, 6), (8, 5) (-4, 6), (-1, 1), (0, 4), (4, 7) (1, 2), (2, 5), (5, 7), (1, 3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The last one, since the domain numbers are not in order of lowest number to highest. D is the answer.!

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

Look for one where the same x values go to two different y values, this is not a function

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

Domain does not need to be in order....

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

But the last is the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes it does, the sequence has to be in order from the lowest to highest. A, B, and C are, and D isn't since it goes '1, 2, 5, 1' If the 1 at the end was higher than 5, then it would be a function.

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

Because 1 goes to 2 and 1 goes to 3

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

You are very wrong. Sets do not have order. Google it

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

F(1)=2 and f(1)=3 thus it is not a function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Look at the last line in #1, and the third to last line in #2 here ----> http://www.athometuition.com/functions.php

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

PS not all functions increase...

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

The last line says what I said

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

If x=y then f(x) = f(y)

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

We have f(1) =2 and f(1)=3

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

1=1 but f(1) does not equal f(1)

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):
