The Treaty of Versailles completely destroyed the German economy. When Germany signed the treaty, they had to pay the victors $33 billion. They could no longer place soldiers in the Rhineland and their military was restricted to only 100,000 men. This caused much resentment toward the League of Nations and was later one of the reasons WWII took place.

The empires of Austria-Hungry and the Ottoman Empire were destroyed with the signing of the treaty. Austria-Hungry became two separate nations and the Ottoman Empire fell into rebellion (Young Turk Revolution) before becoming the Republic of Turkey. As these old empire crumbled new nations were created along with power vacuums.

As for the Middle East, England broke a promise made to the Arabs in the region. The English promised the Arabs independence and their own free state. Instead, the English went back on their word and made them colonies. This is one of the main reasons for current conflicts in the Middle East. England also promised to make a Jewish homeland in Palestine. This was somewhat kept.
