Translate this problem to an equation and solve. Four times the square of a number is 16. Find the number. @johnweldon1993

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

4 times the square of a number the square of a number means x² right? 4 times that means 4x² If this equals 16 we have 4x² = 16 We can divide both sides by 4...to isolate x² 4x² = 16 --------- 4 4 x² = 4 now take the square root of both sides to solve for 'x' √x² = √4 x = 2

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Now we can check it 4x² = 16 we said x = 2 4(2)² = 16 4(4) = 16 16 = 16 so yes it is correct
