Oddly enough, transcription and translation of archaea is more similar to that of eukaryotes than it is to other prokaryotes. One of the reasons for this is that the RNA polymerase of archaea is closer in structure and function to RNA polymerase II of eukaryotic organisms. Attached is a figure from a paper published in Nature in 2008 by Akira Hirata, Brianna J. Klein & Katsuhiko S. Murakami titled The X-ray crystal structure of RNA polymerase from Archaea. While not identical to eukaryotic RNA polymerase II, the figure illustrates how archaeal and eukaryotic RNA polymerases have very similar structure and domain arrangements.
