y varies jointly with p and q. When p = 4 and q = 5, y = 60. Find y when p = 5 and q = 8.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

If you have two variables p, q that vary jointly with y, then that means \(y = k*p*q\) where \(k\) is a constant. Use your known values to solve for \(k\), then write your new, improved formula with the value of \(k\) and use that to find \(y\) with \(p=5, q=8\).

So is it 40? Or 240?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

I have no idea without working the problem. Why don't you show me your work, and I'll check it?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

I do not believe either 40 or 240 is correct.
