OpenStudy (mathisfun13):

A triangle has points A (1,2) B (1,6) and C (3,6) and is reflected over the x-axis. A'B'C' are the coordinates of the reflected image. What is the B' coordinate?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

When you reflect any point (x,y) over the x axis it becomes the point (x,-y)

OpenStudy (mathisfun13):

so it would be 1,-6

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yep (1,-6)

OpenStudy (mathisfun13):

would if they both are negative? i.e (-1,-6)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what if you mean?

OpenStudy (mathisfun13):

lol yeah

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

the same rule applies, only the y coordinate will change in sign (-1,-6) -----> (-1,6)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

this is the same rule of reflecting over the x axis
