Saying that 4 < x < 9 is equivalent to saying what about x ? A. 0 < x < 5 B. 0 < x < 65 C. 2 < x < 3 D. 4 < x < 9 E. 16 < x < 81 so i haven't been to school in years and forgot every thing. whats going on here. 4 is greater than (the square root of x??) which which is greater than 9?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its the same thing as saying x is greater than 4 but less than 9

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Is this supposed to be 4 < x^2 < 9? You only have 4 < x < 9 in the question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh... not evey thing copies...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[4<\sqrt{x}<9\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so square everything to get rid of the square root

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer would be E

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thankyou

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Oh, ok. 4 < sqrt(x) < 9 Square all three part: 4^2 < (sqrt(x))^2 < 9^2 16 < x < 81

OpenStudy (anonymous):
