The question is: "A soccer team played 160 games & won 65% of them. How many games did it win?" >I multiplied 160*5 first = 800 >then 160*the6 to get = 1000 >(my tutor said to put a zero in front of the 800) >and they got the right answer: 104 Could someone tell me where the random '1' comes in? I can't see where it'd come from. thanks!

actually the only thing you need to do is 160 x .65 .

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Wait...what? Multiply the 160 by the 5 first... 160 * 5 = 800 yes then multiply the 160 by the 6 (don't forget to put the 0 because of the 10's place now 160 * 6 = 9600 9600 +800 ------ 10400 104.00

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Percent is less than 1 so when you when 65 percent you are winning .65 of them so just multiply by .65 and you will find 65 hundreths or 65 percent of 160

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

*The only thing is she has to do them by hand*

Oh wow! Thanks again John your a life saver!!

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Lol no problem...I don't know where your tutor came up with that 1000 or anything but yeah :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

.65= .60 + .05 160( .65) = 160 ( .60 + .05) = 160 * .6 + 160 * .05

I don't know. He's not talkative when he "teaches", he writes and expects me to follow with no explanation so I've been double checking on here (good idea apparently!)
