These really confus me.... Solve the following inequality: -7r + 1 < -62

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

what would say -7r + 1 = -62 give you if you solve it for "r"?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

r < -9 r < 9 r > -9 r > 9

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

So in the long run...you want to isolate 'r' right? so we need to get rid of all the "extra stuff" that is next to your r -7r + 1 < -62 we want to get rid of that +1.....so lets do the opposite of adding 1...and lets subtract 1 from both sides of the equation (to maintain equality) -7r + 1 - 1 < -62 - 1 this leaves us with -7r < -63 Now we want to completely isolate 'r'...so since r is being multiplied by -7...we should divide both sides by -7 ****when dividing or multiplying by a negative number SWITCH THE DIRECTION OF THE SIGN*** -7r / -7 < -63/-7 r > ?

Those are my awnsers....
