how do i solve for y if x/5-y/6=1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

move x/5 over and multiply by -6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"move" in this case means "subtract \(\frac{x}{5}\) from both sides"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

couldn't you just multiply the equation by 30 to get rid of the fractions, then solve for y ?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

@kelliegirl33 you certainly could. but try what @satellite73 proposes, it saves you a step.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

sorry, what @goalie2012 proposes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I understand.....that makes sense

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

my initial instinct was the same as yours, but because it seems so unlike what I would normally do, I decided to try it and see :-)
