OpenStudy (charlotte123):

The diagram below shows four positions of the moon during its movement around Earth. At which position of the moon will the location labeled P most likely experience the highest tide? Position A Position B Position C Position D

OpenStudy (charlotte123):

thomaster (thomaster):

Well the moon attacts the water. So where is the moon above the water?

OpenStudy (charlotte123):

but when its about p, dosen't that make it a neap tide? :P and neap tides generally have low difference in tides >.>

thomaster (thomaster):

Maybe this'll help. http://home.hiwaay.net/~krcool/Astro/moon/moontides/

OpenStudy (charlotte123):

@thomaster is it d? :)

thomaster (thomaster):

I have no idea :( could be C too.. C is exactly on the opposite position of the ocean

thomaster (thomaster):

D too btw...

OpenStudy (charlotte123):

spring tides have a great difference, and d looks like a spring tide :D what do u think tho? :3

thomaster (thomaster):

If you look at this image http://home.hiwaay.net/~krcool/Astro/moon/moontides/TideAni.gif B could be the answer too

OpenStudy (charlotte123):

@thomaster ur right :O but it might be D, looking at what is in my lesson, spring tides happen when its like, wait let me draw a pic XD
