Choose the slope-intercept equation of the line that passes through the point shown and is perpendicular to the line shown Is this y=3x-24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

the line shown has a slop of 3 so a line perpendicular will have a slop -1/3 so it will have the form y = -(1/3)x+b use the point (6,-6) to find b -6=-(1/3)*6+b -6=-2+b b=-4 so y=-(1/3)x-4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks i would have gotten that wrong

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

perpendicular does NOT mean the same slope, it means the negative precipice @iforgot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok im really loosing it

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

:)

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

that's why I never say perpendicular and always say orthogonal.... the p's mess me up.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it was parallel :P

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

exactly:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3 mistake i made here :P

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

I call that a good night:)
