Which of the following represents the graph of 4x + 3y – 9 = 0?
Is B the correct answer?
Well all you need to graph a line are two points. The easiest two points to find are the y intercept (where the line passes through the y axis) and the x intercept (where the line passes through the x axis). y intercept: the line intersects the y axis when x = 0. Plugging x = 0 into the equation we see y has to equal -3. So the first point we have is (0, -3). x intercept: the line intersects the x axis when y = 0. Pluggin y = 0 into the equation we have x = 9/4). Now we have the second point: (9/4, 0) Now just connect the two points and you have your line.
@MNStudent but the line I got does not match any of the answers...
seems B
@MNStudent you did your arithmetic a bit off: at x = 0, 4(0) + 3y -9 = 0 which means 3y = 9 and y = 3 Yes, B is correct. look at the graph, the y-intercept is at (0,3). The x-intercept is at (9/4,0) which is just to the right of the second tick mark on the x-axis.
Thanks a lot:)
@RH you should figure out where you went astray with finding the line for that equation — this is an important skill you will have many opportunities to use, so it'd be good to have it be reliable :-)
