Would appreciate it :) Which relation does not represent a function? Choose one answer. a. (-4, 2), (1, 5), (-2, 0), (1, 6) b. (-5, 3), (-3, 1), (0, -4), (3, -6) c. (2, 0), (4, 6), (6, 8), (10, 6) d. (-3, 6), (-1, 1), (0, 1), (3, 7)

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

a function is a relationship where for each value of x there is 1 and only 1 value of y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Appreciate it, still a little befuddled.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

are you sure your answer choices are all correctly written?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Absolutely! a. (-4, 2), (1, 5), (-2, 0), (1, 6) b. (-5, 3), (-3, 1), (0, -4), (3, -6) c. (2, 0), (4, 6), (6, 8), (10, 6) d. (-3, 6), (-1, 1), (0, 1), (3, 7)

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

oh, sorry, I overlooked something, never mind. there's a correct answer there.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

tired eyes :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just can't find a solution :S and it's okay happens normally lol

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

|dw:1372370392406:dw| notice how each x value matches up with only 1 y value?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

well, look at each answer choice. do any of them have the same x value in two or more points?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes I do !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A has a dupiclate x value in there.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

making a table like @Jhannybean is doing, or plotting each point is a good way to spot that...

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

and A is correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wow thank you! THIS WAS HELPFUL!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Jhannybean you made a large effort too! I appreciate both of you. :)

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

|dw:1372370563491:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is clear as day now that I see how it is done :O

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

Awesome :)

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

if you have a graph of the function, and there's a spot where you can draw a vertical line and have it cross the function more than once, that's an example of something that is not a function. for example: |dw:1372370677210:dw|
