Light travels 1.86 x 10^(5) miles in 1 second. How far does light travel in one year? Please explain too

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

1.86*10^5 miles/1 s * 60 s/1 min * 60 min/1 hr * 24 hr / 1 day * 365 day / 1 year = you can construct these conversion fractions like this: \[1 minute = 60 seconds\]divide both sides by 1 minute\[1 = 60 seconds/1 minute\]The value of the fraction is 1, so it doesn't change the equality of the statement, it just converts the units appropriately. And if the units don't cancel correctly, then somewhere along the line, you've made a mistake.

Thanks, I'll try that out
