Please help Factor 2y^2 + 3y - 2

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

Alright. How can we factor 2y^2 + 3y - 2. This is hard to explain. I know how to factor, but I can't explain how to do it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I tried factoring but I ended up with 4 and -1 which wouldn't work when I checked my work.

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

Let's start with the basic. We have a trinomials. The only way to factor it is with 2 binomials. So you should automatically write your answer so far as: ( )( )

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

Hmm. I'll just give you the step. Would that be fine?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh I figured it out I had to make it a polynomial first. I got (2y-1)(y+2)

thanks though :)
