What is the best possible first step to solving the following system by first eliminating the y variable? x + y = 2 −2x + 3y = 9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a. Multiply the second equation by −2 b. Multiply the first equation by 2 c. Multiply the second equation by 3 d. Multiply the first equation by −3

I feel like I'm taking the quiz with you ;) In order to eliminate the y value we have to make them opposite signs with the same value you would multiply the first equation by -3 \[-3(x+y)=(2)(-3) \rightarrow -3x-3y=-6\] which will allow you to isolate the x value

Haha XD sorry! Math is not my strong suit and I'm trying to figure it out lol :P
