@mathstudent55

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

\(csc = \cfrac{hypotenuse}{opposite} \implies -\cfrac{8}{5}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow u just shed so much light on me

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

hypotenuse is always positive, so you have there a -5, on the III Quadrant the "y" coordinate is negative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so now i just need to solve for adj

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

now using the pythagorean theorem, just find the "x" side once you have all 3 guys adjacent side, that is "x" opposite side, that is "y" and the hypotenuse, which is 8 you can pretty much find all the identities http://www.mathwords.com/s/s_assets/s126.gif

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay kool

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks hun

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yw

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

just keep in mind that, the pythagorean theorem only gives the root, not a sign you're in the III Quadrant, in the III Quadrant, "y" and "x" are both negative y = -5 as given and "x" will also be negative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay for the answer i got b=39 @jdoe0001
