hi there everyone! Just a quick question... I am currently self-studying real analysis toward a degree here in south africa and was wondering if it is recommended to do Multivariable calculus simultaneously with the real analysis. Any thoughts - would it be too difficult or confusing or too much of a mixture of maths?
Multivariable calculus is needed to properly understand real analysis. Otherwise, you are guaranteed to get stuck if you dont have a very solid grasp of multivariable calculus. It'd be extremely useful to have some linear algebra background in there also. Without those two--generally considered pre-reqs for even sitting in any real analysis class--it'd be very difficult to properly grasp real analysis.
Thank you RupaBose! This really helps - alot! Much appreciated :) I've completed calculus level one and a linear algebra course - so, going to do these two courses together... Thanks again :)
Sure thing..I'd at least recommend trying to get through the first half of this course at least, before moving forward with real analysis...it'll definitely be a lot easier with at least multivariable differentiation/basic integration under your belt! At most, should only take a week to get through the whole of the MIT OCW for multivariable..Best of luck with all of that!
