Select inductive reasoning, deductive reasoning, or neither. You watch an ant taste a liquid and die. Several more ants sample the liquid and they die. You conclude the liquid is an ant poison. Inductive reasoning Deductive reasoning neither

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

which one do you think it is

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

hint: think about this question: is ant poison the only thing that will kill ants?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

noo lol

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so there's no way for you to know 100% that this liquid is an ant poison, which means you're basing you're reasoning on specific observed events and you're trying to apply a very general rule

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

that all means you're using inductive reasoning

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

another example of inductive reasoning: you pick up a rock, and it's hard you pick up another rock, and it's hard you pick up yet another rock, and it's hard ...etc etc... so...you conclude that all rocks are hard

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

but this is flawed because a) you haven't tested every rock and b) not all rocks are hard so inductive reasoning has its limits
