A participle phrase is a group of words consisting of a participle and its modifiers. A participle is verbal that is used as an adjective and most often ends in -ing or -ed. A participle phrase functions as an adjective and answers the questions . what kind, which one, or how many. Example : Delores noticed her cousin walking along the shoreline. Which cousin ? The one walking. Along the shoreline is a prepositional phrase.. Walking is a verb acting as an adjective modifying cousin. The guy, wearing the chicken costume, is my brother. Which guy ? The one wearing the chicken costume. Wearing is a participle....a verbal acting as an adjective modifying guy.
