did you put the equation given into y = mx + b yet?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
like this 4y = -3x -2?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
you still have that 4 in front of the y. what do you think you need to do to get rid of it?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
hmm divide by 4?

yes! now what do you have :)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
y = -3/4x - 2/4 like this?
OpenStudy (texaschic101):
-2/4 = what ?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so do you know which one is your slope ?
OpenStudy (texaschic101):
nvm...the -2/4 doesn't even matter

is it correct? What I wrote? the slope is -3/4 right?
OpenStudy (texaschic101):
correct
OpenStudy (texaschic101):
and since your looking for a parallel line...the slope will be the same
OpenStudy (texaschic101):
Now use y = mx + b
m = -3/4
y = 6
x = -4
now sub your info in and solve for b
OpenStudy (texaschic101):
b is your y intercept

do you understand ?
OpenStudy (texaschic101):
hold on let me check
OpenStudy (anonymous):
does b equal 3?
OpenStudy (texaschic101):
y = mx + b
6 = -3/4(-4) + b
6 = 12/4 + b
6 - 12/4 = b
24/4 - 12/4 = b
12/4 = b
3 = b
no it is not 2.
so your equation is : y = -3/4x + 3
OpenStudy (texaschic101):
yes it is 3
