How do you find the instantaneous rate of change in this problem? For a vehicle traveling at speed v (in mph) when the brakes are applied, the distance d (in feet) required to stop the vehicle can be approximated by the formula d=0.05v^2+v . Find the instantaneous rate of change of distance with respect to speed when the speed is 46 mph. Do you take the derivative and then plug in 46 or is there some other formula to use?
