a die is rolled. what is the probability of rolling the following a multiple of 2 or a multiple of 5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a. 1/18 b. 1/12 c. 1/6 d. 2/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Count the number of rolls that are a multiple of 2. Add that number to the number of rolls that are a multiple of five. Call that "x". Then, x/(total faces on the die) is your answer.

im confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is 2 a multiple of 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In other words, is there some integer that you can multiply by 2 to get 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes?

OpenStudy (magbak):

It is only 3 possibilities because only 3 sides on a six sided die are a multiple of 2 or a multiple of 5. The out comes are 1,2,5 because 1 x 2=2, and 1x5=5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To conceptualize this problem correctly, it will help if you list out several multiples of 2. You can do that by taking the natural numbers (1, 2, 3, ...) and multiply each by 2. Go ahead and list out about 5 multiples.

OpenStudy (magbak):

Ok @tcarroll010 take it over from here :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@susana123 ? Are you able to do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Zarkon , I guess sometimes a helper ends up talking to no one but himself!

OpenStudy (zarkon):

yep
