Very honest question: How does cheating work on OpenStudy? I've been here for a while, and no matter what I've found no way to "lead up to an answer" on history responses.
What is worse is this: Lets say you give someone a detailed explanation that leads to an answer. The person is in a class where they need to show their work. You just gave them the entire thing, they copy it down, and get full credit. They just cheated. So even giving an explanatory answer helps a person cheat.
I think a simpler solution to this dilemma is to ensure that the asker rehashes the provided explanation in his own words (in other words, do you mean that...) It's inevitable that answers will be provided, but I think its everyone's job to ensure that the person asking learns.
it may be prudent to ask question in those cases to lead the poster in the right direction. If they respond then we coax them a little more and lead them to the conclusion.
if all they can respond with is "idk" or " whats the answwer" then its best that they review their material to gain a suitable foundation with which to have an intelligent conversation with :)
Simple, ask them questions and involve them, even if you have to make pointless questions just so they realize you are not going to just give them the answer, ask them things they should lready know from the lesson and lead it up.
I agree :)
The issue @e.mccormick is quite an issue however
