Suppose you are getting dressed in the morning and are looking for an outfit. How many different outfits can you create if you have 5 different shirts, 6 different pants, 3 different pairs of shoes, and 2 different hats? A. 90 B. 16 C. 11 D. 180

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

The principle of multiplication :) Just multiply the (independent) possibilities together :) I'm sure the choice of shirt does not affect the choice of pants (theoretically, etc) so just multiply them numbers together :D

D - 180?

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

That's the one :) See, for each of the five shirts, you have 6 pants... so that makes 5x6 combos...which is 30. For each of those 30 combos, you have 3 pairs of shoes, that makes 30x3 = 90 possible combos And for each of those 90 combos, you have 2 hats, so that makes 90x2 = 180 possibilities :)

thanks! i didnt realize it was that easy!
