2y=-42-4x -x+2y=23
Okay...there are 2 ways of solving this...but I will be using the substitution method... Can you solve that first equation for 'y' ...?
y-mx+b??
Well yes that will be the form...can you put that top equation into that form?
y=-42-2x??
Close 2y = -42 - 4x We want to isolate 'y' soo we divide everything by 2 2y = -42 - 4x ------------- 2 2 2 y = -21 - 2x right?
right
Okay...so now that we know what 'y' equals... y = This stuff.... We can go into our second equation...and where we see a 'y'...we replace it with "this stuff" Our second equation: -x+2y=23 Replace the 'y' with the -21 - 2x we just found...so -x+2(-21 - 2x) =23 Now we just simplify that
tooo x=1
hmm -x + 2(-21 - 2x) = 23 after distributing the 2... -x - 42 - 4x = 23 combine the -x - 4x... -5x - 42 = 23 add 42 to both sides -5x = 65 Divide both sides by -5 x = -13 See what I did there?
yes stalker i did thanks :)
Lol well we're not done yet... Now that we know what 'x' equals....we need to find what 'y' equals... so take either of your original equations...lets do the first one: 2y=-42-4x We now know x = -13....so replace the 'x' here with that 2y=-42-4(-13) distribute the -4... 2y = -42 + 52 do the addition....-42 + 52 = 10 so... 2y = 10 divide both sides by 2... y = 5 All make sense? :)
yupp thanks darlin
No problem! Now I don't want to see you posting any more questions like this! Solve them like this :P
fine .-.
:P haha sooo kidding :D
lol u better beh lol
pfft or what!? :P
