and I would love to know how to do this if its wrong, not just the correct answer please
OpenStudy (jdoe0001):
can you solve for "x" the bottom equation?
HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):
actually, y=-1, and i will show u why
HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):
first u use substitution
HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):
2x+y=-7
-2x -2x
y=-2x-7

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):
then, you combine the two equations
OpenStudy (anonymous):
combine, how, @Jamierox4ev3r ?
HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):
3x + 2(-2x-7)=-11
HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):
then u solve for x
OpenStudy (anonymous):
what do you mean solve for x @jdoe0001? what will that do for me?

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):
3x-2(-2x-7)=-11
3x-4x-14=-11
-x-14=-11
+14 +14
-x=3
x=-3
OpenStudy (jdoe0001):
it will give you an equivalence :)
HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):
so x=-3. Then, you can use this to solve for y
OpenStudy (jdoe0001):
one you can use :)
HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):
all u have to do is plug in x into the two equations. lets start with the first one

okay, I follow so far... but why subbing in x, why not y?
HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):
2(-3)+y=-7
-6+y=-7
+6 +6
Y=-1
HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):
now the other equation
HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):
3(-3) +2y=-11
-9+2y=-11
+9 +9
2y=-2
y=-1
HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):
because both equations provide the solution y=-1, your y-variable is -1. That is your final answer.
