What is the probability of getting tails five times in a row with a two-sided coin

please help

hi phi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Assuming an even coin, multiply the probability of getting tails by the number of flips: \[P(5 tails) = P(Tails)^5 = (.5)^5=.03125\]

please exsplane better

OpenStudy (phi):

one way is draw a tree on the first flip you have two possibilities: |dw:1373572879114:dw| two tails in a row is 1/4 you keep drawing the tree, and follow the T only branches, label each leg 1/2 and multiply the 1/2's for each leg....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright, obviously the probability of getting tails on one flip is 1/2. What then is the probability of getting tails twice in a row? Your flip possibilities are TT, TH, HT, and HH. So the probability is 1/4, or (1/2)^2

And Phi just rocked that answer. Does that help?

yep thancks
