What is the equation of the line passing through (–6, 1) and perpendicular to the line y = –3x + 1 in slope-intercept form? y = 3x + 4 y = one-thirdx + 3 y = –3x – 6 y = negative one-thirdx – 5

help me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my work i dont care

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

so, what do you say is the slope of => y = –3x + 1 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what? im so lost here.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are looking for a perpendicular line and the slope will be the negative reciprocal of the other slope in the original equation. The slope in the first equation is -3, therefore the slope of the perpendicular line you are looking for is 1/3. Are you with me so far ?
