OpenStudy (anonymous):

we need some real improvements in this physics section :S

OpenStudy (rane):

As in wht way some improvement is required ?

OpenStudy (rane):

As in wht way some improvement is required ? and this is suppose to be in OS feedback

OpenStudy (anonymous):

people out here are pathetic at physics :/

OpenStudy (rane):

u r kidding ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

seriosuly -.-

OpenStudy (rane):

i dont belive that, its just that they r few ppl answering q's here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like what? :D Pathetic you said, yeah agree. Many question here, but its all less than 70% being answered. So different with OS Math's section :))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This site was created by a team of monkeys.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

highly brilliant and evolved monkeys? yes i agree ^_^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your just jellous of my 20 smart score, cause it shows I am smarter then u

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup.. truly jealous :(..

OpenStudy (rane):

guys come one this is not the place to argue or fight

OpenStudy (rane):

or to show other how better they r

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Rane, is just jellous because he is inferior to me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i agree with RANE.. but that was really funny :D :D

OpenStudy (rane):

pls @Jack17 stop this now.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pls

OpenStudy (anonymous):

guys that was serious. go fight somewhere else -.-

OpenStudy (rane):

i told them off, they r not here anymore

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there are very few questions asked and very few people to answer. I think these 2 problems are related.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah...and in most cases they dont even know what they are doing.... i will give you a few examples few links on certain questions

OpenStudy (amistre64):

we essentially have students answering students ... they are not spose to be all knowing in physics. Even the questions I try to answer in here are based in a very limited understanding; but are textbook related.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats the problem. physics is not limited to textbooks. its something more than that

OpenStudy (amistre64):

and those who want to explore beyond the textbooks will do so. those who dont ... wont.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

some people cant get there answers because there questions are different and not based on textbooks we must do something to cater to their needs ,,, thats the purpose of this site right?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the purpose of this site is to gather people together to share knowledge and perspectives.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and we are not able to achieve this in physics

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if a question is asked that is not textbook related, then if someone knows how to bring it to light, then they should. But if noone is able to respond to the question, then there is really nothing that we can do for it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

look at this question ... the person giving the answer have no idea what he is doing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

he just posted the formula...thats not the way of solving this question.... secondly we dont need enthalpy change to solve this question ... some people are misguiding others @amistre64

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I really think that there should be some more subsection in all the subjects. like fundamental and advance for school students, senior college students.... because its really boring to answer the questions like "one dimensional motion with constant acceleration" for a senior students. And i believe everything should be done with great interest.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the answers provided are guidance, or an idea towards a solution that may or maynot be correct. If the response is misguided, then it is up to the community to correct it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which they are ofcourse not doing

OpenStudy (amistre64):

have you attempted to correct them?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i wanted to show thisto people first so that we recognize the need of improvement

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the improvement is had by the community stepping in and offering their ideas and thoughts and perspectives.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

this is a learning environment for all, not a free answering service .....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes.. people use it to complete their homework without putting in extra efforts

mathslover (mathslover):

Physics does also involve concepts. I see, the questions posted there are of all topics ... There are some experts of Physics that are hidden somewhere doing their work and having busy schedule. Hope to see some new Physicians and the old ones too in future :) As per my view yet on OS, Ambassadors of OS are very devoted to the work they are given. If we appoint 5-6 ambassadors to help and check the Physics group time to time, then we will have a drastic improvement for sure. Even all users are devoted in helping others on OpenStudy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mathslover : agreed

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i agree with that :) and if they are not willing to have a conversation towards a solution, they will have to be satisfied with whatever grade they get

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i miss JamesJ he was a genius at this stuff

mathslover (mathslover):

We need to force them to put in here some extra efforts. We can just ask firstly, "What have you tried yet?" , and this will make either the user to post what is his/her thinking or to just lose hope to get help from us. They will have to satisfy with what they have studied by own.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we need subsections in physics

OpenStudy (amistre64):

subsections are wishy-washy at best.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the math group has subsections that people only use to post more than one question at a time with.

mathslover (mathslover):

Yeah, experimentx , jamesJ and many of there were some active experts especially for Physics... Btw, I am thinking that we need a kinda excitement for the users to answer questions in all groups.

mathslover (mathslover):

Instead of subsections we can have a hash-tag feature : like question.... Topic : #Mechanics And that's it, No spam I think.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the hash-tag idea was tried and it flew the coop ....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmmmm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lets just promote the physics section on facebook and other social networking site

mathslover (mathslover):

Oops. Must say, We have the most experience spammers and trollers on OS.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

lol, we do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lets get some physics teacher here... but its difficult to convince them.

mathslover (mathslover):

Hmm, promoting may work but only 30-40% , but for the remaining, we need the users to put their efforts , their SELF - EFFORTS and the courage to help others very nicely like @UnkleRhaukus @amistre64 @experimentX do .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

30-40 % is lot. we just need to give this section a push. more like how we provide activation energy to a cheical system before the reaction takes place :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*chemical

mathslover (mathslover):

We have Physics experts here. OS Aim was to not involve the relation of teacher- student on this site, while friend-friend relation while solving any question. If we appoint some teachers to help here, then the students will not be able to ask their doubts freely. They will limit themselves and their thinking. lol indirectly, we need a catalyst!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

we can set out some punch and cookies in the corner :)

mathslover (mathslover):

What if we are allowed to copy and paste pictures in comments, that will look better .. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have an idea.. lets promote physics section on OS.. 3 medals for anyone who helps and answers another person in physics section

mathslover (mathslover):

Nopes :( , that will surely decrease my level :( , spams and trolls will be at peak.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cmon. only in physics

mathslover (mathslover):

We shall have everything same in all sections. Introducing that only in Physics will downfall other groups.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its just that the person who have posted the question if satisfied can give 3 medals to the person answering the question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we will do it for a week or so

mathslover (mathslover):

Rather than that, I think we shall have a weekly OS Newsletter in which some stats are given like how many questions were answered, how many questions were asked. Weekly topper in asking questions. Weekly topper in answering questions. ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah and give 100 medals to that person

OpenStudy (anonymous):

rank then 1st 2nd 3 rd and give them100, 50 and 30 medals

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*them

mathslover (mathslover):

LOL! No ... instead, motivate him and bless him ... OpenStudy newsletter will surely motivate ALL to help others . We can just have a space in the right of the OS page showing progress of competition.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cmon you must give them some prize -.-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we need some new people to step up

mathslover (mathslover):

Prizes like Mathslover (Topper) - Maths may be good.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

everyone wants medal...... give them what they need for their extra efforts

OpenStudy (anonymous):

physics group will be sky rocketing in 2 weeks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

LOL i love physcis... thats why i am so concerned about it :P

mathslover (mathslover):

I understand.

mathslover (mathslover):

Or like this,

mathslover (mathslover):

mathslover (mathslover):

Just some example ( I know those are bad ^ ) :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there are many experts here.. :D.. i dunno where they all disappeared.. atleast when i answer.. i first make sure i know my stuff.. and if i dunno.. then i mention that it is just my point of view.. and call some expert for help :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

talk about expert Mr. Vincent-Lyon.Fr.. he is one :D..

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

:)) I must admit this is very annoying helping people for the 50th time about uniformly accelerated motion! The good thing about having only one level and one topic is that the 'teachers' can help the more advanced students, and the advanced students can help the beginners. What annoys me most is people posting exam questions and never coming back to the site to discuss the hints or the answers given.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My two cents. I am not surprise to see this thread. Many participants are new to physics or a branch of physics and this site I believe meant with them in mind. Some of us have significant background in physics. If we wish to be of assistance to the newcomer we must be patient and tolerant and use our fullest ability to remain clear and helpful as well as encouraging. Those of you are still studying a subject but are confident they know a solution are equally burdened to do this. Those who think they know but are not confident should indicate this (this I have seen) . I have seen many answers to questions that had errors (one who knows not and knows not he know not). I have also noted "hints" that were too abstruse to be of value. I have noted time when the helper had gone off on a tangent and not being of much help. I have sensed that often a helper will rattle of a quick off the cuff comment which is sometime demeaning. I'm not sure that this site is intended for speculation on new ideas and concept in physics. Sites like Physics Forum are more appropriate for that. On the other hand discussions of paradox's and apparent contradictions from application of accepted physical principles have great pedagogical value. As mentioned above I too would appreciate acknowledgement of my assistance or if by some error I have been inaccurate, misleading or wrong a message to that affect. I thank all who have acknowledge my assistance and look forward to helping those that I am able.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there was an expert who went by the username "demitris".He was like a tank overflowing with his knowledge of physics. I have not seen him for months. He probably got irritated with all these problems and left.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

Great post. I totally agree the physics section has room for improvement. Subsections would certainly help; grouping similar question makes it easier for helpers to find post they want to help on. And i really do like the idea of a 'newsletter' of resent top posts. Learning Physic is hard, explaining physics is harder I find it often quite a challenge to say something helpful without giving up too much of the answer. (sometimes my answers are abstruse, sorry about that) There have been great people helping in physics section, but is not a very attractive place for such peoples because most question are quite low level physics, or poorly defined questions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that person once solved quite a hard question but the asker did not appreciate it-simply saw it and left. So, he complained in the post about him solving hard questions but not getting any medals.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How many times have we thanked our teachers, instructors, or professors. If we did it is only after we matured and realized their contribution to our progress. Teaching requires patience and an opportunity to help someone understand physics or any subject should be its own reward.
