I need help with adding and substracting Radical Expressions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sqrt7/36 +sqrt252/25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer I got was 30sqrt7/30, but that is not the correct one. I need to know the process and figure out where I went wrong. Thanks!

OpenStudy (raden):

36 and 25 in the radical ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, it is over the entire fraction on both

OpenStudy (raden):

okay, see how to simplify one by one use these property : sqrt(a/b) = sqrt(a)/sqrt(b) and sqrt(a * b) = sqrt(a) * sqrt(b) so, sqrt(7/36) = sqrt(7)/sqrt(36) = sqrt(7)/6 now, sqrt252/25 = sqrt(252)/sqrt(25) = sqrt(36 * 7)/sqrt(25) = sqrt(36) * sqrt(7) /sqrt(25) = 6sqrt(7)/5 add up all above, we get sqrt(7)/6 + 6sqrt(7)/5 = (1/6 + 6/5)sqrt(7) = 41/30 sqrt(7)

OpenStudy (raden):

is that in your choice ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, that is the correct answer. I am confused on the last part. I got the first two parts correct, but messed up when I tried to add them together.

OpenStudy (raden):

this part ? (1/6 + 6/5)sqrt(7) = 41/30 sqrt(7)

OpenStudy (raden):

i used the property : a sqrt(x) + b sqrt(x) = (a+b)sqrt(x) if the rad is identic, just add its coefficients
