Hans Christian Andersen used irony in his story “The Emperor’s New Clothes” to develop his characters and theme. Identify one example of verbal or situational irony and explain how it helped develop one of his characters or the theme of the story.

seeing is believing. when u tell a lie long enough, it becomes the truth.... I believe that's the Irony. Hope that helps. ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats verbal irony right?

OpenStudy (falco276):

I believe so.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you(: oh but i have to put it into 5-6 sentences.

OpenStudy (falco276):

Hmmm...... I can see what I can do. Give me one moment, please. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure thing(:!

OpenStudy (falco276):

IDK if this is going to help but I believe this just gives out a definition that somwhat could relate to the story. Here it is: Verbal irony is someone saying something, but meaning something else, like, "I love you." While saying it in a hateful or spiteful manner. Situational irony is when the result of an action is different from what you want or expected to happen. Such as, you go to shoot someone, but you miss and the bullet bounces around before killing you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea i already saw that when i tried searching it but i cant really do anything to make my sentences with it

OpenStudy (falco276):

Hmmm...... well, Gee, I have no idea on how to turn that to a paragraph. Here is my advice, try to tag in some other helpers I'm sure they could come up with a solution. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thanks(:!

Situational irony is when something happens that is the reverse of what is expected. So I believe the situational irony would be when the emperor went out into the kingdom in the nude, and the people, instead of telling him that he was naked, told him that his clothes were amazing and beautiful.
