The range of the following relation: R: {(3, −2), (1, 2), (−1, −4), (−1, 2)} is
{−1, 1, 3}
{−1, −1, 1, 3}
{−4, −2, 2, 2}
{−4, −2, 2}

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):
its the y values
and sets don't repeat numbers
OpenStudy (mathstudent55):
Range of a function: set of y values of all ordered pairs.
OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):
so the third option does not even make sense...
OpenStudy (anonymous):
is it A ?
OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):
what is the y value of (3,-2)?

hint: (x,y)
OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):
@broweyebrit ?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
im not sure...
OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):
what is the y value of (3,-2) note that the x value is the first and the y value is the second
OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):
so what is the y value?

1 ?
OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):
are you joking?
I show you two numbers, then tell you the y value is the second number, then I ask which one is the y value and you say something that is not listed?
OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):
(3,-2)
the y value is the second number
what is the y value?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
you dont have be mean about this im new to this, you need to chill.
OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):
lol trying to make you think and not just throw out a number

(3,-2)
the y value is the second number
what is the y value?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
-2
OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):
good
OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):
(1, 2)
what is the y value?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
2

(−1, −4)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
-4 =y
OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):
and last but not least (−1, 2) ?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
2
OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):
ok so our y values are -2,2,-4,2
but when we make a set with these things {} we do not list anything twice
so, the set of y values (also known as the range) is
{-4,-2,2}

make sense?
OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):
to find the domain you would do the same thing with the x values...
OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):
sorry for being rude:)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh okay i get it, thank you! and its fine! (:
OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):
also know that with sets, there is no order
{1,2,3} = {3,2,1} = {2,1,3}

Is the following relation a function?
x y
1 −2
1 −3
2 1
3 −2
Yes
No
OpenStudy (anonymous):
can you help me with thins one ? @zzr0ck3r
OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):
so with functions we cant ever have the same x value going with 2 or more different y values.
OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):
does that happen here?
OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):
if you don't know the answer to this list the point
EX: (1,-2)
