Which is the best description of the solution for 2x + 3 > 1 or 5x – 9 ≤ 6? Answer all real numbers x > 2 or x ≤ -3/5 x > -1 or x ≤ 3 no solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You have to simplify two equations by isolating the x.

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

2x + 3 > 1 2x > 1 - 3 2x > -2 x > -1 5x - 9 <= 6 5x <= 6 + 9 5x <= 15 x <= 3 answer is C :)

thank you[:

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

no problem :)

OpenStudy (phi):

after you simplify to get x > -1 OR x ≤ 3 the key part is the "or" the solution is any number bigger than -1 or less than 3 one or both of those conditions will always be true, so it is better to say the solution is all real numbers.

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

oohhh... that is true....I missed that

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. I don't particularly like this one, because it is a bit of a trick question. On the other hand, they want you to notice you can "simplify" x > -1 or x ≤ 3 to just "all real numbers"

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

good catch
