write the equation y - 2 = 4(x + 5) in standard form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The standard form of the equation of line is like this : \[y=mx+b\] So, to get the standard form, we have to transform all other terms to the left side and leave the y "alone" in the right side ! So : \[y=4(x+5)+2\] Remark, that we have transformed -2 to the other side and so, we change its sign ! Now , we expend the brackets : \[y=4x+20+2\] and finally we get : \[y=4x+22\]
