OpenStudy (cherie_magee):

For the following system, use the second equation to make a substitution for y in the first equation. 2x + y = 6 y = 3x + 4 What is the resulting equation? y + 2x + y = 6 2x + y + 3x + 4 = 6 2x + (3x + 4) = 6

terenzreignz (terenzreignz):

Your thoughts? y = 3x + 4 in the second equation, so the whole point of this was to replace the y in the *first* equation with the y-value in the *second* equation...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It should be 2x+(3x+4) = 6. They are basically telling you what y equals in the second equation, you just have to plug it in for y.
