What's the difference between 6C6H and C6H6? I'm currently teaching myself AP Chemistry and never took Chemistry I because I took AP Biology last year. I found out the empirical and molecular formulas to a question and when I checked my answer it was C6H6. Why isn't it 6C6H?

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

It is actually \(C_6H_6\). The convention is to write in subscript after the element's symbol, the number of times it appears in the compound.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

C6H6 is benzene, while 6C6H, implies that the 6 in the front is a coefficient for the amount of C6H is a chemical reaction v x H2O (l) <-> x H2O (g) ^ or how many ligands there are in a given compound. v NaSO4*10H2O ^ C6H is not a real molecule and so there must be a mistake.
