catalysts are used to speed up the rate of recation. useful because the catalyst itself isn't consumed and can be reused.

Depends on the catalyst, really, as some are used to decrease the speed of a reaction('negative catalysts' or inhibitors), but generally we'd say it would increase it.

It wouldn't affect the equilibrium, yes, because the rates of both forward and reverse reactions would increase equally.
