How do you standardize an unknown solution of sodium hydroxide?
A 1-liter solution of about 0.1 M NaOH is prepared. The amount of KHP needed to neutralize the NaOH (0.5105 g) is massed out. About 50 mL of distilled water is used to dissolve the KHP. The pH sensor is placed in the solution, which is placed on a magnetic stirrer, with a stirring rod inside, and the burette is filled with the NaOH solution. The NaOH solution is added by small increments and recorded in the LabQuest. To find the equivalence point the first or second derivative is used. After the NaOH solution is standardized, it is used to titrate the HCl solution (using the same procedure as with the KHP) to discover its concentration.
