please help show work! Thank you!! -3[y-3(4y-2)-(5-y)]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First off you need to start distributing on the most inner parentheses so you have the -3(4y-2) and the -(5-y)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then from expanding those equations you get -3[y-12y+6-5+y)]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You could then collect like terms Then you could distribute the last -3 and have your answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it 36y-15 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well if you simplify this: -3[y-12y+6-5+y)] it becomes -3(-10y +1) correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am just looking at the insides of the parentheses.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I added/subtracted like terms before distributing...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right which you should do, but + y -12y + y + 6 - 5 simplifies down to -10y +1 Then if you multiply by -3 you would get 30y - 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thank you I made major mistakes when adding/subtracting like terms...don't know what I was thinking but I got it now! :)
