OpenStudy (kainui):

All elements try to have a noble gas configuration, which is a complete octet. This basically means they have a multiple of 8 electrons. Get out a periodic table and look at it when I describe this: So for instance in group 1A you can lose a single electron to make an atom that looks like a noble gas by "wraping around" to the other side. For instance, when Lithium loses an electron it looks like Helium and when Sodium loses an electron it looks like Neon. Since electrons are negatively charged, losing one means you leave behind the positive proton, giving a positive charge to the group 1A atoms. So the first four groups lose electrons while the last 4 groups gain electrons to form stable ions.

so it is b? kainiu

@Kainui

OpenStudy (aaronq):

yes, it is. group 6A implies that is had 6 valence electrons, and as Kainui pointed out, you need to fill the valence to 8 electrons. so you need 2 more electrons (remember electrons have a negative charge).

OpenStudy (kainui):

Yeah exactly

'B'
