Seg RS is tangent to the circle with centres P and Q So angle R = 90 degrees and angle s= 90 degrees Draw a seg PT || RS so PRST is a rectangle PT=RS = 27 ST= PR=5 QT=QS-ST=9-5=4 Now in triangle PTQ, angle T = 90 degrees so it is a right angled triangle now by Pythagoras theorem we have PQ^2=PT^2+QT^2 =(27)^2+(4)^2 =729+16=745 PQ^2= 745 \[PQ=27.29 \approx 27.3 \]
