Which of the following is an ionic compound? A. H2O B. CO2 C. CH4 D. PCl3 E. NaCl
Ionic compounds can usually be identified by the fact that their constituent elements come from opposite sides fo the periodic table.
Ionic bonds generally occur between a metal and non-metal... only one of these compounds is metal+non-metal.
Usually a column 1 or column 2 (metal) with Column 16 or column 17 (non-metal)
We are yet to see a precise definition =)
Never coumn 18 as those are the nobles gases and tend to not react or chemically combine with anything.
@genius12 That is because this is a learning/study site. It is designed to help people learn. If all they needed was a precise definition then they could look it up themselves.
Thanks a lot. So would NaCl be the correct answer?
Yes it would.
thanks!
@genius12 neither me or @Paynesdad was trying to give a precise definition, or even an imprecise definition. Why would we, for a question where it isn't needed, and may not even be helpful to the asker...?
