Which of the following compounds has a molar mass of 2.8 × 101 grams? A. H2O B. SO2 C. CO D. NO2 E. CH4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is A the correct answer?

thomaster (thomaster):

Hydrogen has a molar mass of 1.008 g/mol Oxygen has a molar mass of 15.999 g/mol 15.999+2(1.008) = 18.015 g/mol So A is not the answer Go to http://ptable.com, check how many atoms of an element you have (eg. for H2O that's 2x H and 1x O. Find the molar mass of these individual elements and add up.

thomaster (thomaster):

The molar mass of sulfur is 32.06 so that's already too much, so it's not B either

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it is carbon monoxide!!!

thomaster (thomaster):

C = 12.011 O = 15.999 12.011+15.999 = 28.01 So that's the answer :)
