Why did immigration decrease in the 1930's

OpenStudy (accidentalaichan):

The Great Depression was a time period from 1929 through 1931 that affected citizens of the US. It was due to the economy falling into despair. Many went without jobs and homes, or anything to eat every night. This caught many immigrants' attentions, basically being a message that it is not worth coming to the US.

OpenStudy (accidentalaichan):

"Immigration declined in the 1930s because of the restrictive laws, the Great Depression, and the looming war in Europe. Despite the hardships of travel and the indignities of Ellis Island where some immigrants were given new names, people from many countries found their way to the Great Plains."
