Rank the solids from highest to lowest melting point. To rank items as equivalent, overlap them H2O KBr and Kr can you also explain your answer? thanks

OpenStudy (abb0t):

I didn't know \(Kr\) was solid.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Either way, you have KBr > \(H_2O\) > Kr The reason that KBr is first is because of lattice energy. This is something that may or may not be covered in general chemistry, possibly covered more in depth in inorganic chemistry. ionic compounds generally have higher melting points than non-ionic. Water is non-ionic. Remember that we're talking about melting point, and so we are referring to it's solid structure.

Thanks so Much!!!
