Find the rectangular coordinates of the point with the polar coordinates (-7, 5 pi/3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[write x=r \cos \theta and y=r\] \[r=-7,\theta=\frac{ 5\pi }{3 }\] plug the values and calculate

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would it be (7/2, 7sqrt3/2) @surjithayer ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x=-7\cos \frac{ 5\pi }{3 }=-7\cos \left( 2\pi-\frac{ \pi }{3 } \right)=-7\cos \frac{ \pi }{3 }=-\frac{ 7 }{2 }\] y co-ordinate is correct.

thank you
